Itinerary - New Zealand, South Island
Nov. 27 - 29
Drove through Arrowtown, a gold rush town
on way to Queenstown. Walked around “tourist central”
(Queenstown) for New Zealand. It is in the middle of the south.
It is the adventure capital of New Zealand. Every type of
outdoor activity should be available there. AD wanted to
whitewater raft again and horse back ride.
Then we drove from Queenstown to Dunedin, a
lovely university city. We spent the days walking around the
city, drove out on the peninsula and visited an Albatross
center, and did hiking.
Nov. 30 - Dec 3
Left Dunedin and drove to Oamaru. It is
famous for it’s limestone buildings. Remains from the 1880’s
when the area boomed with agricultural wealth. A few local
architects and builders left fantastic examples of a golden
age. On the 1st we drove to Christchurch and settled into
another holiday park. We toured Christchurch visiting the
International Antarctic center, Botanical gardens and Art
Museum
Dec. 4 - 8
We flew back to Auckland and drove to Waihi
Beach on the east coast. It’s a lovely beach community where
we played in the surf and relaxed. Andrew took surfing
lessons. Then we drove back to Auckland and stayed in
Manakau a southern suburb. We toured the city of Auckland.
