We
are spending our last few days in New Zealand. Our flight to
Australia is Tuesday, Dec. 9th. New Zealand has been a very
easy country to travel in. Good roads, while almost all are
two lanes, make driving simple. The frequent one lane bridge
took some adjustment. We didn't think we'd ever get used to
them. The round- about systems work very well and are an
excellent alternative to stop signs.
Travel times are usually longer than
expected due to the mountainous terrain and the sharply
curving roads. The country is also bigger and longer than it
appears. Visitors should limit their destinations (which we
did) so they have time to enjoy the many beautiful locations.
They have built an economy centered on tourism in many areas.
Leisure activities abound but so do the many free walks and
parks.

We finally said farewell to South
America and flew to Auckland, New Zealand. We were all very
glad to be in an English speaking country and hope that some
of our many travel glitches will be resolved. Keep your
fingers crossed. We are also enjoying the warm weather
(On one of our last days in Chile we were in a snow storm). AD
faced the new travel challenge - a 30+ hour trip - very well.
He loves to fly.

We
are on the South Island, New Zealand -- the land of the
Southern Alps. The scenery is spectacular! As we tour the south island of New Zealand
we are finding that the two weeks we allotted is not enough
time to see it all. Unfortunately we had a flight booked and
therefore have had to limit our travels. We visited Kaikoura on the NE coast and
to Queenstown. After 2-3 days in Queenstown (the adventure
capitol) we headed to Dunedin for 3 days and then up to
Christchurch for 3 days.
