Nepal
Greetings from Nepal. We arrived from
Bangkok a few days ago. Kathmandu is a bustling city of 2
million people that has developed haphazardly and too quickly.
Traffic is a nightmare because of it. It’s not that there is
too much of it, just that the narrow roads are shared with
people, bikes and motorcycles. The city romanticized in the
1970’s by the Beatles & hippies isn’t here anymore.
Fortunately UNESCO is actively working to restore many of the
buildings. A few days is all you need in Kathmandu. We are
heading out to the countryside to Nagarkot in the shadow of
Mt. Everest on Saturday.
Most people would start some type of trek from there. We’re
just spending 2 days hiking in the area.
After that we are taking a bus to Chitwan National Park in
search of rhinos, and tigers. We decided to stay at a lodge in
the park. From there we are going to Pokhara for a few days of
relaxing and enjoying the Annapurna Range. This is the dry
season so views of the mountains should be excellent. On the
way back to Kathmandu, we are planning a white water rafting
trip.
