Kensington Palace

Friday Jan. 23rd - Visiting Queen Victoria

Kensington Palace was the home of Queen Victoria.  The stately gardens are open to tourists as well as the inside rooms which display the Royal Wardrobe Collection.

Hats, handbags and other accessories belonging to HM Queen Elizabeth IIHats, handbags and other accessories belonging to HM Queen Elizabeth II are shown at Kensington Palace State Apartments. From headdresses worn by the young Princess Elizabeth to the more recent creations, the exhibition featured items associated with significant moments in Her Majesty's life and Reign.  Also on display are the gowns of the late Princess Diana.  (And I thought Carol had a lot of clothes)

Wild Bus Ride

Since I had time remaining of my tourist docket today I decided to take a longer bus ride (on my still valid day pass) out to see more of the residential areas of the city.  What an entertaining trip this turned out to be.  I rode out from city-center about an hour, enjoying the sights.  As the daylight waned I exited the bus, wandered about the neighborhood briefly then found an in-bound bus on the same route.

I had to run for the bus as it was already there as I approached.  Thanking the driver for waiting as I was boarding I discovered that there was no driver there.  He was in the back browbeating a passenger who apparently had tripped an alarm by disengaging a handle to an emergency door.  From the ensuing wild ride I gathered  that he was having a VERY BAD DAY.

We literally tore through the streets of London, bouncing and jostling along the way.  He skipped stops.  He roared through yellow lights.  He refused to open the door to a tardy would-be passenger.  All-in-all, it was a ride worthy of the old "E" ticket at Disneyland.

Saturday Jan 24th - The Flight Home

All day Saturday was a travel day.  Checking out from Stuart Hotel it was subway / train back to the airport.  I arrived in plenty of time and checked in without hassle, and in good order we were boarded and airborne.  For some reason the flight home always seems longer than going.  Movies and finishing my "Churchill" book kept me occupied.  We arrived a few minutes less than the advertised nine hour flight time.  Luggage retrieval, car and drive home finished the trip.

Can't wait to get back to see more of this wonderful country.
