Iquique, Chile
Oct. 22nd - Laundry problem
Why should laundry be a problem to get
done? In Arica we couldn’t even find a laundry. Here in
Iquique, the guide book has three listed. Knowing that nothing
opens early, I left at 9 to find them. I realized immediately
that none would be open before 10. Since most businesses don’t
even have a sign, just open store fronts, I couldn’t really
tell if the address was a lavendaria. Back to the hotel to
wait. We all went out later to drop off the clothes and drive
out to Zofri Mall, the duty free shopping center. None of the
addresses were laundries! The tourist information office gave
us the name of the only 2 laundries in the city. In Arica we
ended up doing our own wash.
Our
schedule still has one extra night. After spending another day
on this beautiful beach, we decided that this was the best
place to hangout. AD and I spent a few different times today
playing in the surf. It seemed that every half hour a series
of huge waves would come in. DW spent the morning creating
mid-term exams for AD. Home school is going well on most days
and since none of us frequently know what day it is we study
everyday.
The scooter came in handy this afternoon as we walked the
boardwalk and AD rode his razer. At times we have wondered if
it’s weight is worth it. Since dinner is so late we enjoyed
playing Farcle and drinking beer at an ocean side bar. Then it
was out for Chinese food and back to the room for a little TV.

Yesterday
and today my Dad and I went body surfing in the Pacific
Ocean. Sometimes the waves are so big that you are held
under and thrown along with the wave.` You get a lot of
salt water in your mouth, nose, and eyes. It is a lot of
fun to see my dad fly with the waves and I enjoy doing
it with him.
