Itinerary - Jan 4 - 15
Jan. 4 - 5
Drove to Melbourne where Michael and Andrew
Carnegie live. Since we still had the rental car, we drove to
the Science Museum in a western suburb. Afterwards we drove to
Chadstone Mall and did some shopping. Swam in the pool
Jan. 6
Drove 100 Km west of Melbourne to Ballarat,
which was the center of the gold rush in the 1850’s. Panned
for gold and enjoyed ourselves at Sovereign Hills, a theme
park.
Jan. 7
Visited with John and Noreen Westley who we
had met on the ferry in Chile. With their son and family, we
went to a park and had a picnic. Their grandson, Jacob is
Andrew’s age and they played all day together.
Jan. 8 - 9
Spent the day in the city center visiting
museums and walking around the city. Vanessa, Michael’s sister
had us for lunch and an afternoon of catching up.
Jan 10 -12
Drove to Marie and David’s (friends of
Michael) holiday house near Wilson’s Promontory. Played in the
surf, walked the beaches and in the national park.
Jan. 13 - 15
We planned to leave Australia today after more than a month
but did not know we needed to confirm our seats and they were
reassigned. So, we are here until the 15th.
It’s gotten very comfortable staying with friends but we need
to get on the road. We fly to Bali, an island in Indonesia, on
the 15th. We
don’t have hotel reservations but will find a place in Ubud, the
cultural capital of the island.
