I knew the house wouldn’t be stirring early today. AD woke up a little after 8 and had to wake up his mother. He was furious at her when he found out how late the night was. We can’t figure out his problem over that. We tried to keep quiet because we knew there were going to be some hurting “puppies” today. No one else got up until after 10:30. I was sure happy I hadn’t had much to drink and got to bed at a reasonable hour. We tried to be quiet and sensitive to how bad everyone most likely felt. AD & I decided to go into Mansfield for supplies and more DVD’s. Michael V. wanted a paper so he rode along with us.
Mansfield was a lot quieter today. We’ve
gotten a new word into the Aussie slang already. IGA is soon
going to be called “iga”. Our friends all like it! It’s
amazing how much slang there is in Aussie speak. Other than a
little swimming and a lot of laying around, nothing much
happened today. I made dinner. We had been eating gourmet
foods from wonderful cooks…I made scalloped potatoes and ham.
(We’ve been cutting at a whole ham since arriving and it seems
to be multiplying). Chocolate chip cookies and ice cream for
dessert.
AD & AKC headed off for their second horse
riding excursion early this morning. This time at Pinnacle
Valley near Mt. Buller. MI isn’t feeling well with an ear
infection. We drove him to the doctor and then the chemist
(pharmacy). After filling the prescription, we drove to meet
our horseback riders. There were only 4 on the trek today
which made AD much happier. They had a wonderful time.
AKC directed us to Mt. Buller where they
ski from June to Sept. AD & MI went back to Mansfield. Along
the road to Mt. Buller we found a few interesting road signs.
The ski resort sits on top of the mountain at 1600 M (5400
feet). The Inman’s have a condo on the mountain which we
visited. It has a wonderful view of the town and the mountain
tops beyond.
Michael’s parent’s came up this afternoon. We had the house all straightened up for them. Paul and Betty Inman are interesting people and we sat and talked on the patio while we ate lunch. AD drove Paul around on the golf cart for a while then we went swimming in the neighbors pond. They have two blow-up canoes and a few rafts that we all enjoyed. AD spent his time splashing us and practicing his dives.
After the swim we taught Betty how to play two up. She caught on quite quickly with AD’s tutoring and learned that the only way to win is with good cards. As we readied ourselves to go to the pub for dinner the evening went from good to bad. It began with MI continuing to feel poorly with ear pain and deciding not to go to dinner. Then Paul fell while trying to attach the hose just outside our bedrooms patio door. We heard him calling out and fortunately found him to have only a one inch skin tear on his hand. TD and I got him up and around to the patio where Betty took over and scooted us out the door for dinner.
We were running late for our reservation and arrived at the pub first. As we waited for 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes for the other car to arrive we began to worry and wonder if we were at the right place. It was then that a server came over and let us know that Michael V and Linda’s car had had an accident and they were therefore going to be late. AKC arrived with Betty and Paul about 15 minutes later. He explained that Michael V. had lost control of the car on a curve and went into a 360 into an embankment. Linda and AKC felt a little achy. Linda and Michael stayed to coordinate the car which may be totaled, while the rest of us enjoyed a delicious dinner. We went home and spent the rest of the evening on the porch chatting with Paul and Betty.
