Dec. 9
Flew from Auckland to Cairns in northern
Queensland. Found out immediately that we were going to need a
rental car. It’s so hot that we were soaked from the walk in &
out of the city center.
Dec. 10
Spent day booking tours for stay in Cairns. Great
information center.
Dec. 11
Rainforest habitat reserve in Pt. Douglas, swam in Mossman
Gorge and boat ride on the Daintree river.
Dec. 12
Boat trip to Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef.
Snorkeling, submarine ride.
Dec. 13
Tjapuka Aboriginal Center, north of Cairns. Heritage
displays, spear throwing and boomerang throwing.
Dec. 14
Skyrail up into the rainforest mountains
north of Cairns to the Village of Kunanda. It is an artist and
tourist village. Return trip by the Kuranda Railroad a scenic
railroad trip down from the mountains.
Dec. 15
Travel from Cairns to Sydney. We were met
by our good friend Linda and her son Martin at the airport
Dec. 16 - 19
Settled in to a second home at the Claydons
in Sydney. They had a mother-in-laws apartment behind the
house. Spent our days swimming, reading, shopping and enjoying
not traveling.
