Overall Itinerary

May 1-11 Late flight back to Madrid with an overnight at an airport hotel. In a rental car, drive to northern Spain. Staying in a coastal village we will make day trips to San Sebastian, Bilboa, and the Costa Verde. Then we overnight in Andorra, a small mountain republic. Next we end our Spain visit in Barcelona for three days visiting it’s fantastic Gaudi buildings and many museums. (The term gaudi came from an architect/artist who built amazingly crazy buildings.) We plan a visit to the International Exhibition that begins on May 9th.

May 12-30 We fly to Berlin, which has turned out to have cheaper lodging than Spain. How’s that possible? From Berlin we will travel to Krakow, then tour central Europe.

June Debbie Jackson and family are coming in early June. We will visit Amsterdam, Belgium, parts of Germany and Poland. I’d like to coerce them into going to Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. While Debbie would like to head south to Prague and Vienna. We have friends in Switzerland to visit in June. The dream ending to this trip is to take the Queen Mary II, home from Southampton.

Previous

Our trip so far took us down the coast of South America from Quito, Ecuador to Torres de Paine in southern Chile. We crossed the South Pacific to New Zealand and Australia. After spending the holidays with friends in Australia, we flew to Bali, then Singapore and Thailand in Southeast Asia.

Our itinerary for the last half of our journey is taking shape.  We plan to be in Thailand until the 25th including the time in Ankor Wat.  Then we go to Nepal for 2 weeks. Next is three weeks in India.

Feb. 21-24 Our last few days in Bangkok were spent seeing the Grand Palace, taking a long boat ride along some of the canals in the city and going to Samut Songkhram to see the famous floating market. We got some last minute shopping done and bowling one more time.

Feb. 25- Mar. 11 Flew to Katmandu, Nepal. We stayed for a week at the Hotel Blue Horizon. The second week we went into the countryside and took a trek.

March 11- April 1 Flew to New Delhi, India. Took some day trips  out of the city. We flew to Varanasi, Kochin (in the southern state of Kerala) and Goa. With only 3 weeks in India we don’t have much time to get to many places. It’s a big country where train trips are often listed as 50 hours!

April 2-7 We spend the last months of our journey in Europe. We arrived in Paris on April 3 where we met our friends the Kettinger's for a few days.  And we will meet family in Europe in early summer before coming home in June 2004. We flew to Paris via UAE in the Persian Gulf.

April 10-23 We flew to Spain to see the many wonderful cities near Seville, visit a friend in Madrid and go to Barcelona.

April 24-30  Fly to Tunis, Tunisia for a week at a beach resort. Spend time at the resort and tour the country to explore the Roman ruins, old Meccas and bazaars.

During the almost year of travel we have been ”home schooling” our 10 year old son, Andrew. The timing of this trip has been planned since his birth in 1993. We hoped that he would be old enough to remember some of the experiences when he grows up. The 5th grade seemed to be the last year of school that we dared have him miss. Andrew has been posting stories of his experiences for his classmates at St. Joseph’s School in Maumee. His friends are able to follow our travels and correspond with us as part of their computer class. We are hoping that they will get a better understanding of the world they live in through our travels but also they will help Andrew feel connected to his friends.

This site is mainly for those “we left at home”. Thank you for keeping in touch.
