Most people never get the chance to live
out their dreams. I have wanted to wander around the world for
most of my adult life and now we are about to leave. My first
solo trip away from Maumee was hitchhiking across Canada to
Victoria, BC and back, in 1975. It was a college graduation
present to myself, much to the chagrin of my parents.
(Something I wouldn’t recommend today!) Yearly trips followed
as possible to Europe, Peru, Egypt, India, Australia, New
Zealand, Kenya and the former USSR.
In 1990, DW & I got married and continued
with this passion. For our honeymoon, I took her to Malaysia,
Borneo, Hong Kong and Tokyo. We’ve led a privileged married
life with many trips as a couple and with Andrew. We took him
to Alaska at 5 months (he doesn’t remember but we do!), to
Switzerland, London, Paris and a cruise from Buenos Aires
around Cape Horn to Santiago. He finally made it to Disney
World a few years ago. That’s really the only place he ever
wanted to go to. So Euro Disney seemed a natural last November
when we were in Paris again.
Most people who know me think I’m well
traveled. A world map in our house has lots of pins in it but
it’s really only 38 countries. An English friend’s 90
countries dwarf that! As many miles as we will be traveling
it’s still only going to be to maybe 10 new countries but
wonderful ones, they are… Bolivia with Lake Titicacca,
Thailand, Cambodia with Angkor Wat, Nepal, Namibia, Botswana,
Zambia & Zimbabwe for Victoria Falls and all the animals. You
name it and we are going to try and get there. Our wish list
is far to long for the short period of time. We are worried
that our travel agenda is too ambitious. Email

I’m sure that all of you have read the
quotation that relates how people enter our lives for a
specific period of time and the specific reason is to help us
grow. Well I have been blessed with adventures beyond my
wildest dreams. Many of those came with my marriage to Tom
(TD).
As we embark on this most recent journey I
find that I am faced with exhilaration, trepidation, and
some sadness. The trip itself is thrilling, the preparation
and travel daunting and the thought of leaving a job I love,
and my dear friends and family fills me with sorrow. What
would Freud say? Follow your dreams!
So off we go for a one-year adventure
around the world. How many Xanax does that require? Some
friends say, “Nothing would make me go to the Amazon Jungle or
the back roads of India”. Others beg to be put in my 21”
suitcase and to travel along. A few are even willing to baby
sit and help educate AD. That is a real adventurous spirit! As
TD has outlined we have quite a tour planned.
So dear friends follow our journey into the
jungles of the world. Explore with me exotic foods and fun
from your seats at home on our web site at diblings.com.

But most of all, keep us in your prayers. Thank you for
keeping in touch.
With love,

I
am 10 years old. I’m 4’ 10” tall and have a Harry Potter type
scar between my eyes. I like baseball, soccer and other
sports. I like to listen to 50 cent and play computer games. I
feel excited about the trip but at times don’t want to go.
What makes me most afraid is to see a real
lion, even if I am on a two-ton elephant. White water rafting
also sounds scary to me. All of the trip sounds like fun,
except homework. Being home schooled sounds like fun too. My
mom will take it easy on me.
It stinks to be leaving my friends. I love
having my own computer and a digital camera. I hope my friends
will send me lots of e-mails at
Andrew
Dibling.
